History, broken navigation and tracing
A
few more useful features are the ability to trace your
steps by using the History tab, broken navigation being
highlighted and the ability to step forward or backward
as if the DVD was playing as normal.
The History is a pop up menu on the right hand side
by default and it contains a list of every modification
you make in a complete list. The amount of steps in
the list depends on what you have in the options for
this setting. If you discover you make a mistake you
can simply call up the list and click any part to jump
backwards. If you think everything is OK you simply
click back to where you came from or anywhere else in
the list you require. With this feature it means you
can do a few modifications and try a test export. If
it works you can continue but if it doesn't you can
go back and trace your steps and see where you went
wrong. Although it doesn't do it now, I would like to
see the history also saved when you save a project and
I'm sure it may be added in the future if requested
enough.
If DRM sees a broken link anywhere in the DVD then
it will be highlighted in red in the Domain Pane. This
enables the user to troubleshoot easily as most of the
detective work is done in finding the location of the
error. Sometimes it may not affect the playback but
it's good to know the error is there and can be corrected
if required. An example of this is shown below where
I completely removed Chapter 3 from Title 1 in VTS and
therefore references where incorrect elsewhere. If you
hover the mouse over the red text it will tell you what
errror(s) it has found

As it says, Title 1 Chapter 3 has a reference to an
invalid program so you can expand the Titles in the
Domain pane to see what is wrong. As mentioned above
I had completely removed this block (Chapter 3) and
therefore DRM had renumbered subsequent chapters to
compensate. All that is left is the invalid reference
to the old chapter which doesn't have a value. All that
is required to fix this error is to remove the reference
completly by using the delete chapter in the right hand
click options

The trace feature also comes in handy when troubleshooting
or just getting to know the navigation. With this you
can jump to wherever the DVD player would go next by
using the right click option. Although it's not exactly
DVD playback it comes rather close and can come in handy
when trying to figure out which path the DVD player
takes. Again this trace feature is probably going to
be enhanced in the future as it has been mentioned in
the forums by Dimad
Most issues can be resolved using a mixture of the
above features instead of going round and round in circles
and also produces more reliable results in less time
