Extra Settings
In the settings tab you can set some more option that apply to the backup.
Most tape drives allow for a compression to be used for the backup and Firestreamer is no exception, you can let eh backup program choose for you or you can enable or disable it yourself.
The same goes for hardware write and verifies, only here you can disable or enable it and otherwise choose to use software write and verifies from within the backup program.
Support for legacy software is also built-in but disabled at default, this is useful for when you want to backup straight from a SQL server.
Removable media support is enabled at default, so you can start using the writer or flash drive as media right out of the box.

You can encrypt the backup if you want to.
The choice is simple either no encryption or FIPS-197 (AES) CTR 256bit, with or without password.
FIPS stands for Federal Information Processing Standards and they govern the encryption standards.
The FIPS-197 encryption standard is more commonly known as AES, which stands for Advanced Encryption Standard, created in 1997 and it's the successor of DES, or Data Encryption Standard, created in 1970.
Encryption strengths can come in various strengths, this one comes in the highest strength, 256bit.
Bundle this with the fact that you can only read the media with your backup program and you have got a pretty secure backup.

The other settings you can find are in the scheduler tab.
In there you'll find the schedule(s) your scheduled backup(s).
When you open the schedule for editing, you get the standard schedule options the backup program gives you, but also a wrapper around the standard option.
That's where another good gimmick comes into play, this wrapper holds the options you don't have with the standard options.
You can setup email settings for the backup to notify you over the email about the status of your backup and also send the logs with the emails so you can see what happened.
There are also more options to choose from in regards to the media and the backup itself.
You can control more aspects of the media, like overwriting unrecognizable media, overwriting expired media, spanning media and ejecting the media after a backup.
In short the schedule wrapper provides the options Windows Backup doesn't have and by doing so makes it a more powerful tool.
