Tests
To test out the Transcoding speed and quality under the different options available, we carried out 3 tests on 1Click DVD Copy. These consisted of:
A backup done with only the default settings enabled which should allow for the fastest completion time and best quality due to the removal of menus, extras, subtitles and DTS audio. A single layer media was chosen as the output media.
A backup done using the default settings, but this time including the menus, subtitles and extras. This should mean that 1Click DVD Copy id using the maximum amount of compression possible to complete a backup onto single layer recordable media.
The last backup consisted of checking all available options and recording onto a Double Layer media at 4x, meaning that no compression is used and the resulting backup should be an identical 1:1 copy of the original DVD.
The DVD used for this test was 28 Days Later which is 7.75GB in size and a movie that this reviewer doesn't mind watching 3 times to check out the quality on the 3 tests carried out for this review.
The media used was Traxdata 16x DVD+R recordable media, and the hardware used consisted of the Liteon-IT 1633S with firmware BS0Kfor the source drive and the BenQ 1620A with fiirmware B7P9 for the destination drive. l
Test 1 - Default settings:
Using the default options of 1Click DVD Copy, the compression required to fit a movie only backup of the test movie needed 16% compression to fit onto a single layer recordable media. Total time required to read and compress the original DVD to a single layer recordable size was 11 minutes and the total time to finish the task including recording was 17 minutes and 5 secs.
The resulting single layer backup looked identical to the original movie when viewed on the review 28 inch T.V and started at the beginning of the film without the need to browse through menus or watch the trailers that where present on the original.
Test 2 - Main movie with menus and subtiles included:
Using this option with 1Click DVD Copy, the compression needed to fit this compilation onto a single layer recordable media was 20%. Total time required to read and compress the original DVD to a single layer recordable size was 13 minutes and the total time to finish the task including recording was 19 minutes and 15 secs.
The resulting single layer backup looked again almost identical to the original movie when viewed on the review 28 inch T.V and started at the main movie menu selection screen. All subtitles where available for selection and the extras had been removed.
Test 3 - Dual Layer Copy:
Using this option with 1Click DVD Copy, no compression is required to fit the original DVD onto our Verbatim 2.4x Dual Layer media. Total time to complete this backup was just under 1 hour with the main part of this operation being the 48 minutes it takes to record a Dual Layer media at 2.4x
The resulting Dual layer backup looked again identical to the original movie when viewed on the review 28 inch T.V and started at the main movie menu selection screen just like the original. All subtitles and extras that where on the original DVD where available for selection.
