Recording Tests
VSO Inspector from VSO Software was used for gathering our information about the available speed this media could be recorded at on our review drives. This media information utility allows us to see the rated speeds available for the Verbatim 2.4x Double Layer media according to the hardware used during this review.
The hardware used for these tests consisted of the NEC 3500AG, Pioneer DVR 108, BenQ DW 1620A, HP640i and the Liteon-IT 1633S, all of which are able to record this media at its rated 2.4x speed.
Once the maximum available recording speeds for each device had been discovered using VSO Inspector DVD Decrypter was used to record a DVD Video ISO image of 7.93GB in size to the Verbatim 2.4x Double Layer media at its rated speed. The disks created with DVD Decrypter will be used later on during the Transfer and Verification tests.
All the review drives saw the Verbatim Double Layer media has capable of recording at its rated speed of 2.4x as well over speeding to a maximum speed of 4x.
The NEC ND 3520 reported the fasted recording time, NEC 3500 AG and Pioneer DVR 108. The HP640i achieved the slowest recording time being 3 minutes slower.
