Transfer Tests

The disc created with CD Speeds 'Create CD' feature on the BenQ 1620 where tested in all of our writers using CD Speeds 'Transfer Test' feature. The idea behind this test is to see if any of the writers have a problem transferring data from the Verbatim 16x+R media at their maximum available transfer rates.

CD Speed will always come up with an exception or failed to read error if the disc is bad and the transfer test will halt at the sector that failed to read. This would indicate an unreadable disc.

What we are looking for from these tests are a smooth transfer curve from start to finish although sometimes slowdowns near the end of a disc can happen especially at very high transfer rates. These are ok as long as CD Speed does not come up with an error.

Below are the results from the transfer tests carried out on our Verbatim 16x+R media and our review writers:

Overview of Transfer Tests:

All discs recorded in each writer where played back without any error messages from CD Speed. One disc recorded on the Liteon-IT 1633S did have a problem with big slowdowns in speed during the NEC transfer test.

As this was a very unusal transfer we re-tested on another recording with the Liteon-IT 1633S and got the same results although none of the over drives had similar problems with this disc during their transfer tests.

To be absolutely sure we then used VSO Inspectors scan disc feature to check that no errors were present on the media and again no bad sectors where found. It seems that the NEC 3500AG just had a bad time reading the Verbatim 16x+R media that was recorded with the Liteon-IT 1633S due to the high PIF and jitter levels introduced during its recording to this media. We can only hope this is improved with newer firmware for the Liteon 1633S.
