Recording
The usual intensive CDR-Zone.COM recording tests where used to test the 8x DVD-R Media at various recording speeds available in our review drives, including an over speed to 12x in our Pioneer DVR 108.
DVD Decrypter and NEro Burning ROM where used to burn various Video DVD and Data DVD from my Hard drive. The entire process should take between 8 and 10 minutes to record 4.36 GB of Video files at its rated speed of 8x, and around 6 and half minutes to record the same amount of data at an over speed of 12x. After recording, the disc should be easily recognised in the software used for this review.
DVD Decrypter recording to the Taiyo Yuden 8x-R media at its rated speed of 8x in the NEC 3500 AG. Total time for this recording for this 4.21 GB Video DVD was 9 minutes and 8 seconds which is consistent for an 8x recording stratergy from NEC. The disc finalised without any problems and was readable in all tested drives.

Nero Burning ROM recording the Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R media with
the Pioneer DVR 108 at an over speed of 12x taking a total of 6 minutes 49 seconds to record 4.33 GB to this media. You can see quite clearly that the finishing speed was 12x. Also of interest to readers with writers such as the DVR 108, is that the over speed to 12x actually takes place for over half of the total recording time, starting its over speed at just 1.9 GB of the recording and we welcome this feature just like with the Ritek and Verbatim 8x_R media we have reviewed as it bridges the gap nicely for users waiting for 16x media to become widespread: :

CD Speed 'Create CD' Test:
