Recording and Verification tests

Recording:

The standard CDR-Zone.COM recording tests where used to test the DVD-R Media at the maximum record speeds, these being CopyToDVD from VSO-software was used to burn a Video DVD and Data DVD from my Hard drive. DVDDecrypter was used to burn an ISO image of the same Video DVD.

The entire process should take between 8 and 9 minutes to complete at 8x, and the disc should be easily recognised before use in both CopyToDVD and DVDDecrypter.

CopyToDVD recording the media at 8x (twice its rated 4X). Total time for the recording was 8 minutes 30 seconds on the Pioneer DVR 108:

DVDDecrypter recording an ISO image to the 4x DVD-R media at 8x Total time for the recording was 9 minutes 25 seconds on the NEC 2510A:.

Verification and error checking:

VSO Inspector was used to check the recorded DVD-R for any bad sectors that might be present. As the screenshot below shows, no bad sectors where found during the scan:

A second test was carried out to test how good the media recorded in the NEC2510A. This drive was chosen as it is able to record to this media at twice its rated speed if special adjusted firmware from Herrie is used. After being recorded in this drive at 8x ( double its rated speed ), the disc is then passed thru K-Probe to do a PIO/PIFF scan to measure how well the recording process was. If K-Probe reports very few errors then we know a very good recording has been achieved. If this is achieved on a disc recorded at twice its rated speed, then we know for sure that the default 4x will be extremely reliable.

K-Probe scan on disc recorded at 8x:

As you can see from the K-Probe results, the disc achieved very low values, which means that the disc was recorded well in the NEC 2510A at 8x without any errors that are worth mentioning. This is one of the best K-probe scans we have seen at CDR-Zone and this is at twice the discs rated recording speed.
