Recording
VSO Inspector from VSO Software was used for gathering our information about the available speed this media could be recorded at on our review drives. This feature allows us to see the rated speeds available according to the hardware.
The hardware used consisted of the NEC 3500AG, Pioneer DVR 108, BenQ DW 1620A and the Liteon-IT 1633S, all of which are maximum recording speeds of 16x.
Once the maximum available recording speeds for each device had been discovered, CD Speed's Create CD feature was used to record the maximum amount possible to the Plextor 8x +R media at its highest available speed the devices had to offer.
Results show that all drives where capable of recording the Plextor 8x+R media at its rated speed of 8x and that infact overspeeding this media to speeds of 16x was available by default on all but the Liteon-IT 1633S.

This is the first media we have reviewed that has had such widespread support for overspeeding to twice its rated speed on our review drives and we only hope Liteon-IT can achieve 16x to this media in the future.

Overview of recording times:
Each drive used its own version of either Z-CLV, CAV and P-CAV writing methods to record this media with a difference of 2 minute and 16 secs between the fastest and the slowest recording times.
Below is a summary of how long our review drives took to record this media:
The fastest reciording times where achieved by the BenQ 1620A and NEC 3500AGdrives. Both recorded the Plextor media in a time of around 6 minutes, achieving this by means of the CAV writing stratergy.
The Pioneer DVR 108 achieved the slowest 16x recording, taking 6 minutes and 46 seconds to record a full disc using the Z-CLV writing method. This is more inline with a 12x recording on this device.
The slowest times where recorded by the Liteon-IT, taking 8 minutes 16 seconds to record the same disc using its P-CAV writing method at 8x. The Liteon-IT came last as it was the only drive not able to over sped to the Plextor media..
