Plextor 16x DVD+R media review

Introduction

It's brand new and has been eagerly awaited by many dedicated DVD enthusiasts - its the new Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+R media! Under the Plextor branding and at the earliest possible time we have sourced this media so that our readers can have a great idea of just how good/bad the compatibility is with a series of popular DVD recording and playback devices.

In line with Plextor's high quality and high reliability standards, the discs are manufactured for Plextor by Taiyo Yuden, one of the World's leading and best known media companies. Plextor 16x DVD+R media is available in 25x and 50x spindle packs.

So not alot of information about this media from official sources as yet but the important features have been listed. The new Plextor 16x DVD+R media utlizes the latest Taiyo Yuden technology and adds a second layer which helps against the effects of everyday scratching. Further inspection of the packaging confirms that this media is made in Japan by Taiyo Yuden as well as carrying a 16x certified logo.

Once inside the spindle, there is a paper DVD insert giving links to useful information from Plextor. This includes their website and email details should you need assistance with your media. For the real media quality enthusiast, the batch number codes on the inner circle of the media are clearly marked TH001330 and 0204 respectively.

So its what you would expect from a Plextor media, it's made by Taiyo Yuden, has a protective layer and you get readily available technical support details. Oh and it still carries the familar polished gold top layer with plenty of writing space and is available in both 25 and 50 pcs spindles. We do note however, that at this time there is no Jewel Case version of the Plextor 16x DVD+R media available. No printable version is available either which is not unusual for Plextor branded media.

As this media is brand new on the market firmware support in our DVD writing devices may not be completely tuned. But it is normal for Plextor branded media to be well supported at its rated speed right from the day of release and we will be looking to see if any of our devices have issues with this new media has we further investigate its quality over the cause of this review.
