Mirror Platinum 8x DVD-R media review

Conclusion

Conclusion:

The Mirror Platinum 8x DVD-R media burnt perfectly at 8x using both CopyToDVD and Nero Burning Rom, recording either data DVD or Video ISO images on our NEC 2510A at its rated speed. The current firmware for this drive also recognised the media at 8x without any problems, but we do advise checking that you have the latest firmware for use with this high speed media. The Pioneer DVR 108s burning stratergy meant that it recorded the 8x media faster than the NEC2510A, beginning its recording at 6x as opposed to the 4x that the NEC started its recording at.

No Errors on the recorded Mirror Platinum Media where found whilst recording any of the review samples sent for use in these tests. The test DVD Video that was recorded for this review played without any flaws in both the Bush and Cyberhome standalone DVD players used for this review, and 3 data backups where recorded and sent to another PC where they copied across without any problems at all.

During our test with over speeding this media from its rated 8x to 12x with the Pioneer DVR 108 produced a recording that was not fully readable in any drive. Indeed at the same point where the media was 'over sped' to 12x, Nero CD Speed found unreadable errors on the disc during a scan, so here at CDR-Zone.COM we recommend to only record this media at its rated 8x on the Pioneer A08. Maybe it is the media and maybe it is the firmware, but you can be sure we will post an update if this media does indeed 'over speed' to 12x successfully with later firmware updates on the Pioneer DVR 108 or over drives capable of 'over speeding'.

Here at CDR-Zone we found no problems using the 8x DVD-R media in 6 separate recordings and can highly recommend this media for use with todays 8x capable DVD writers but cannot recommend it for overspeeding to 12x in our review 12x capable writers.
