Imation 16x DVD+R media review

home - reviews - dvd media reviews

Posted on 21 Sep 2006 by SirQUK

Conclusion

To sum up, the Imation 16x DVD+R media delivered some very pleasing results with all recording devices used during this review. All drives achieved good recording quality with both the transfer and playback tests showing no issues at all. The Philips DVDR1660P1 under firmware revision P1.6 did show the best overall quality result and if you can cope with the extra time it takes to record to the Imation 16x DVD+R media using this drives more aggressive logic you should have no issues with recording at all.

Best recorded with the most optimised logic of each recording device, Imation and Moser Baer have between them delivered to the public a cost effectible media that under normal storage conditions serve the consumer very well. I think it is clear that with a little more research and support from individual devices, the overall result would show a good quality recordable media. Where hardware support was optimized results are to be considered of very good quality. Hopefully future firmware updates can improve upon this even further. In the meantime, as so often is the case except for the very highest quality media, a reduction to 12x recording speeds greatly enhanced the recording quality. In this respect the Pioneer DVR 111D produced a very pleasing 12x recording time of a mere 6 minutes 23 seconds.

As always I look forward to hearing your comments and results with this media in the Media forum.
