Conclusion
The Philips 8 DVD+R media media burnt perfectly at speeds of 8x and above on all 5 selected pieces of media sent to us with both Nero Burning ROM and DVD Decrypter recording either data DVD or Video DVD images on our either our PIONEER DVR 108 or NEC 3500AG recording devices although the 12x results where so impressive we have showed then instead of the 8x ones. Maybe you even have to look twice to believe these are actually 12x over speed recording to the media.
According to CD Speeds Quality test, the PIONEER DVR 108 actually over sped the media slightly better than the NEC 3500 and we hope this can be improved more in a future NEC firmware update .
All the software and hardware DVD Players played the DVD without error except for the Technics DVD Player which we find to be consistent with over similar tests on DVD+R media and the Technics device. No skipping or jerking of any kind was noticed on the Philips 8X+R media we used for the playback tests when placed in devices able to read it.
Most importantly with a recordable media, the Philips 8x+R media also passed all the verification tests
we used during this review, meaning no errors where found and we had a reliable backup of our important records even at 12x recording speeds.
CD Speed gave similar scan results on all 5 pieces tested, all scans showing to this reviewer that the Philips 8x+R was of a very high quality and no C2 failures where reported. Judging by these scans 12x seems a good optimised recording speed for this media and the scans are very comparable to the Traxdata 8x+R media we over sped to 12x in an earlier review.
The disc itself is a very well designed varnished silver front with clearly
labelled lines for writing down the information needed to identify the discs
contents such as time and date recorded.
Here at CDR-Zone.COM this is a media we will use ourselves for 12x recording until 16x capable media comes out in bigger cheaper supply, at which point we hope the Philips 16x media proves to be as good as their 8x+R has shown us during this review .
