Packaging and DVD Information
Packaging and presentation:
Our review media arrived shrink wrapped in a of 25 in a cake box, ensuring no damage could be done to the discs. The top writing surface of the disc is a varnished silver effect with the Philips logo in black. The recording surface is purple in colour and carries the RICOHJPN R02-03 dye code according to VSO Inspector and Nero CD Speed.

DVD+R Information:
VSO software's new Media information utility - VSO Inspector
and Nero CD Speed from ahead software were used for gathering our information about the inserted media, and CD Speeds excellent Disc Quality test was used to check the recorded DVD for any errors that might be present on the recorded Philips media.
As the screenshot from VSO Inspectorshows, the Media Code/Manufacturer ID of RICOHJPN R02-03 which is proof that it manufactured with the well proven recordable dye by by the widely acclaimed RICOH factory. RICOH have long made dyes that other companies re brand under their own name and the Philips version is of A grade and so over speeding beyond its rated speed of 8x should be possible on our review hardware.
A note on Over speeding media:
"A lot of media is able to be recorded past its rated speed much like over clocking your RAM or CPU, and the same ethics apply. A lot of media is easily recorded past its rated speed but slightly higher possible errors might be found. There are media available that can handle this over speed very happily, but also their are certain grades of the same media that might not handle the over speed as well as the A grade version does.
At CDR-Zone.COM we could only recommend recording A grade media past its rated speed. If you are unsure as to whether you have A grade media, please email your supplier for confirmation."
VSO Inspector confirming the RICOHJPN R02-03 MID code and available recording speeds of 2.4 up to 12x available by default with the 2.08 firmware from NEC. Over speeding past this medias rated speed is available by default.

Nero CD Speed confirming the Media ID code and available recording speeds of 2x-12x in the PIONEER DVR 108 with firmware v1.14. Please note that the PIONEER DVR 108 will over speed this media past its rated speed of 8x by default.

Of utmost importance is the fact that compatibility is maintained with existing DVD video players and DVD ROM drives. Philips hopefully work hard on ensuring their particular brand of the RICOH dye is of top quality and the discs should show no errors during our tests and playback on standalone DVD players known to play DVD+R media.
