16x Single Layer Recording & Overburning tests - page 2
Mirror Platinum 8x-R ( TY G02 dye code ) recorded fine at 12x:
The Mirror Platinum media recorded fine in Nero although it did not hold the 12x recording stage for as long as either the Traxdata or Verbatim 8x-R media.
Hopefully this is just a case of a firmware update to resolve this issue although these are re branded Taiyon Yuden discs and not the normal Taiyon Yunden DVD-R of choice :

Below Nero CD Speed showing how the recording to the Mirror Platinum 8x-R disc was achieved with the drop in speed near the end of the media. Total time for the recording was 6 minutes and 59 seconds compared to the 6 minutes and 30 seconds achieved with both our Traxdata and Verbatim 8x media:

Interestingly, the Pioneer DVR 108 was unable to read the disc it had just burnt although the Liteon 1213S was able to successfully complete the reading of the media with a erratic reading and sharp drop being noted around the same time the 12x over burning took place:
The Pioneer unable to read the Mirror Platinum media that it over sped at 12x:

The Liteon 1213S completing its read of the disc without any errors although sharp drops in reading speed where noted:

From the above screenshots, here at CDR-Zone.COM we would not recommend burning past the rated 8x speed for Mirror Platinum branded media with the Pioneer DVR 108 under its present firmware 1.10.
Verbatim DVD+R D/L media:
Another feature of the Pioneer DVR 108 is its ability to over burn certain DVD+R D/L media past their rated speed of 2.4x. At the time of wring this review we found only the Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R D/L media is supported by the Pioneer DVR 108 under firmware version 1.10.
Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R D/L media Successfully being over burnt at 4x for our DVD Video compilation with CopyToDVD 3. Total time to achieve this recording was 24 minutes which is an excellent result for media that should take around 45 minutes at its rated speed.
This to our eyes is one of the most impressive features of the Pioneer DVR 108
and clearly shows just how much time the Pionner DVR 108 can save users of Verbatim 2.4x rated DVD+R D/L media:
Nero CD Speed was used to see how well the Pioneer DVR 108 could read the Verbatim media it had just over burnt with a perfect smooth reading graph for both layers and we have no hesitation in recommending this DVD+R D/L media for over burning with the Pioneer DVR 108:

K-Probe scan showing the excellent PI/PIF levels on the over burnt Verbatim DVD+R D/L media. This is a result that we would of been proud at had the media been recorded at its rated 2.4x speed and we must pinch ourselves to remember this media has been over sped to nearly twice its rated speed:
