Bundled Software
The BenQ 1600 retail package we received came with Record Now recording software and WinDVD to play DVD movies on your P.C. Also included is BenQ's own Book type changer ( Bit setting tool ). With this tool you are able to change the booktype of any DVD+R/W D/L media to DVD-ROM for better playing compatibility on DVD Players known to have issues reading DVD+R/W D/L media.

The above screenshot shows Record Now recording to a blank DVD+R. The project used was a 4.34 GB DVD Video file. The recording process finished successfully and below we can show the included WinDVD playing the recorded movie. For review purposes the movie has been removed, but it did playback the movie perfectly.

So we have recorded a Video DVD, we have played it back fine on a PC software player, know we can try the Book Type Utility to see if a DVD+R D/L disc that has been changed TO DVD-ROM can be played back in our Cyberhome 512 standalone DVD Player - notorious throughout our DVD+R/W D/L reviews for not been able to play these types of media without problems.

Upon insertion of a blank DVD+R or D/L media and pressing of the Check Media button, the current media and book type status of the media are shown. The screenshot above shows an inserted DVD+R D/L media with a booktype of DVD+R D/L. From other reviews we have doen, we know this wil not playback perfectly on our Cynerhome 512 so know we have the option to change the book type to DVD-ROM. By default the Book Type utility will set all DVD+R and D/L media to DVD-ROM, so if you need your RW media to say as that booktype
please rememeber to set that option first before recording.

This next screenshot shows the same media once the booktype has been changed to DVD-ROM and the disc has been recorded to. The Current media status still says DVD+R D/L, but know the booktype status shows DVD-ROM. The booktype has been successfully changed from DVD+R D/L to that of DVD-ROM. Has DVD-ROM is playable in 99.9 % of all DVD Standalone players, we should know have no issues playing back this media in the Cyberhome 512. After inserting the media into our Cyberhome we are happy to confirm that this is indeed the caseand where as before the DVD would skip and become pixelated, the DVD now played perfectly as if it was a normal DVD.
