Las Vegas, NV (January 6, 2005) –Verbatim Corporation, a leading producer of printable CD-R media, announced today that it is now shipping 1-52x-speed White and Silver Inkjet Hub-printable CD-R media in 50-disc spindles. The new media is designed to meet the needs of small businesses and consumers who want to give their CDs a professional look for sharing and distribution. By combining the ultra-reliability of Verbatim CD-R technology with an advanced inkjet-printable surface, users can produce clean, crisp photographic-quality text and images across the entire disc without having to worry about the quality of the recording.

Designed to take maximum advantage of today’s high-resolution 4800 and higher dpi inkjet CD/DVD printers and autoloading systems, Verbatim’s new Inkjet Hub-printable CD-R discs feature an exceptional inkjet-printable surface that provides superior ink absorption and excellent drying properties. These capabilities make the media ideal for short-run and mass duplication by content developers, service bureaus and corporate publishing departments. The discs have been extensively tested and qualified for use with systems offered by leading duplication system manufacturers, including low picoliter inkjet printers that deliver superior label image quality.

These features combine with the media’s broad compatibility, superior data life and outstanding write/read performance to provide an ideal storage solution for personalizing and distributing music, video, games or marketing CDs. Musicians and recording studios can produce their own CDs with photos of the artists for demo recordings, concert sales and promotions. Photographers can create distinctive-looking discs for distribution. Businesses can make product demonstra-tions and marketing CDs that feature products and company logos right on the disc.

“The demand for printable CD-Rs is being driven by the availability of new affordably priced printers that allow users to print directly on the surface of a disc,” said Ron Hanafin, Verbatim Product Marketing Manager. “Verbatim Inkjet Hub-printable CD-R media has been tested with leading CD/DVD printers ranging from low-cost single-disc inkjet printers costing about $100 to high-volume 5,760 DPI printers costing thousands of dollars; so regardless of their requirements, small businesses and home users can be confident of professional-looking results.”

With support for write speeds up to 52x, the high-performance write-once media enables users to record 80 minutes of music, 700MB of data, or 30 minutes of video in 2 minutes or less.

To achieve recording speeds of up to 52x without sacrificing reliability, the new media features the proprietary Advanced Azo? recording layer developed by Verbatim’s parent company, Mitsubishi® Kagaku Media (MKM). Fine-tuned to produce an improved power margin and greater sensitivity, the Metal Azo recording layer technology optimizes read/write performance and produces a superior archival life. To protect the discs from being damaged by scratches, fingerprints and UV light that can destroy data, the disc's reflective layer is safeguarded with Verbatim’s special dual-protective layer.
