Verbatim is the first storage manufacturer to launch dual-layer DVD-R with 8x write speed and storage capacity of 8.5GB data, music or film. The burn takes just 15 minutes to write four hours of video in DVD quality to the Verbatim 8x DVD-R DL, some 10 minutes faster than the previous fastest write speed of 4x media.

Available from all Verbatim stockists the 8x DVD-R DL are available individually or in 5-pack jewel cases at the suggested retail price of £9.00 each or £39.00 for the five pack.

Verbatim say that the key to the whole dual-layer process is the special pigment on the recording layer, which allows for high performance without diminishing the disc reliability and compatibility. Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), Verbatim's parent company developed the coating and are the production method that forms the grooves thus controlling the reading and writing process.

While Verbatim acknowledge that speed is important, Torsten Leye, marketing manager optical at Verbatim said, "Speed should never be at the cost of quality. We've undertaken exhaustive tests on new media using and conventional hardware to provide our customers with a new generation of powerful storage media, highly compatible and guaranteed to play / record perfectly.”

Ron Stuart, general manager of Verbatim UK commented, "MKM spends a great deal of its annual budget on research and development to ensure that our customers get the best that is available all of the time. We are constantly pushing back the barriers to bring the very best of technological achievement to data storage."
