Just recently Verbatim have introduced their high speed 8x DVD+R Double Layer media manufactured as usual by Mitsubishi® Kagaku Media. It's taken a little while to get enough writers that support 8x writing to this media together here in the CDR-Zone.COM basement. Well today is that day! Now I can bring you results of tests on 5 modern DVD writing devices, each capable of achieving the maximum rated speed of 8x for this media. During this review I will be introducing some new DVD writers to CDR-Zone.COM readers - the Philips DVDR 1660 kindly supplied by Philips and the Pioneer DVR 110 kindly supplied by the good folk at SVP.
MKM/Verbatim’s double layer 8x-speed DVD+R 8.5GB discs are the first in the world to be verified by the Philips Verification Laboratory. This achievement has been made possible by a range of technical innovations including the development of a high-sensitivity organic dye and a spacer layer designed specifically for higher recording speeds. Verbatim has also made several process improvements allowing better control of the recording and spacer layers, which achieves the flatness specifications required for high-speed recording.
