Some sad news to report from the VCDEasy website. Due to lack of donations for one of the worlds best freeware video software, the author know feels the need to charge for his work.Hopefully, though once all of the required upgrades to VCD Easy are complete from the shareware version, the program will return to its original freeware status.
From the VCDEasy website:
VCDEasy 1.1.6 is out... and there is now a commercial version of VCDEasy.
On one side, VCDEasy is very appreciated/used by a huge number of users (almost 10 000 000 pages views on www.vcdeasy.org now after about one year, more than 500 000 downloads for the 3 last versions,...).
On the other side, I am receiving too few donations now to pay web hosting and things like domain name registrations. Such is life... And it is true, a freeware should be free.
But I really want to keep VCDEasy alive. So I decided, a few days ago, to now distribute VCDEasy as shareware. I know, this is a bad news for lots of users... But, if VCDEasy as shareware works, I will be able to make VCDEasy a really great product (I will be able, for example, to buy source codes quicker: Burning code, ASPI, MPEG2 codec,... ), and finally, I hope, after 1 or 2 years going in back to freeware for ever. This will also simply motivates me again.
VCDEasy 1.1.5 will expire in 2 days (21st of June). Indeed, 3 months ago, I decided to put an expiration date into VCDEasy to avoid supporting old versions, like I currently do. But finally, I wait for this expiration date to see if the situation about donations is changing or not, in order to take a decision about staying freeware or going shareware... No change...
So it now exists two VCDEasy versions:
VCDEasy Free Limited version: (it has some features disabled and some nag screens)
VCDEasy Commercial version: (full version, no limitations) Features | Buy Online | Download | FAQs
