Capelle aan den IJssel, November 2nd, 2006 – Traxdata, a leading brand of flash and optical media storage products, has today announced the availability of the first of its brand new range of SecureDigital High Capacity (SDHC™) memory cards that offers vastly increased storage capabilities than those currently available on the market.

The new high capacity format doubles the storage capacity of Traxdata’s maximum existing SD 2GB card as the new SDHC™ card can now store a huge 4GB of data. This means that users of the 4GB card can now store more than 1000 of 6 Megapixels high resolution pictures and approximately 1 hour 40 minutes MPEG-2 video on the one card making it ideal for use in digital cameras and camcorders. The new SDHC™ technology is an important development in paving the way to enabling consumers to store a massive 8GB, 16GB and a whopping 32GB in the near future.

The SDHC™ cards are therefore ideal for photographers and video enthusiasts who require reliable memory products that meet their ever-increasing capacity demands. It also means that a single 4GB card provides sufficient storage space for general use, such as during a holiday for instance, whilst also reducing the risk of losing individual smaller capacity cards and ensuring good value for money.

The current SecureDigital technology has previously constricted the maximum storage capacity to 2GB and therefore this addition completes Traxdata’s range of flash media products. The larger capacity now allow users to broaden its purpose to include greatly increased storage limits for longer film footage, alongside its more traditional photography and music storage use.

Josephine Schras, communications executive at Traxdata, said: “The 4GB card is the first release of our various SDHC products which enables us to meet the varying storage and performance needs of our customers.

“We have found that there is a continuous need for good quality, reliable storage products, and as the varying technology develops so does the demand for increased storage capacity. Traxdata continues to be at the forefront of satisfying its customers through meeting and exceeding this need.”

The Traxdata SDHCTM cards use a new speed “class” rating known as Class 2 that has a minimum 2 MB/ sec transfer rate. Although they look identical to legacy SD cards they are not backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices. To ensure compatibility users must therefore look for the SDHC™ logo on cards and host devices e.g. cameras, camcorders etc.

The range of SDHC products from Traxdata has been approved by the SD card Association 2.0 specification.
