More news about the ongoing battle between HD DVD and Bluray to become the format of choice for the next generation of choice.
TOKYO — Toshiba Corp and other supporters of the high-definition DVD format for next-generation DVD products welcomed Tuesday reported decisions by Microsoft Corp and Intel Corp to back the format. The two U.S. personal computer kingpins' decisions would allow the diffusion of HD-DVD to gain momentum, Toshiba said.
DVD manufacturer Memory-Tech Corp, NEC Corp and Sanyo Electric Co joined Toshiba in welcoming the decisions. But the Microsoft and Intel decisions are expected to complicate a battle over the next-generation DVD format between the Toshiba-led HD-DVD camp and a rival group, which is led by Sony Corp and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co to support the Blu-ray format, industry sources said.
So Toshiba and co will see this as good news but will Intel and Microsoft edge their bets and support both formats or we will eventually see one Hybrid format? We hope the companies make their minds up soon!
