Whilst browsing through the net, I discovered this interesting article quoted from the Computer Active website about one of the Media and hardware main players - TDKs decision to seemingly choose Blu-Ray over the competeing HD-DVD format.
"TDK, a popular choice for blank media like CD-RWs and DVD-R discs, has chosen Blu-ray over the rival HD-DVD format. Although only time will tell whether or not it was a good idea to side with only one format, many people believe that companies would most likely be better off embracing both next generation formats. The article also reports that Imation will be providing both HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs to consumers."
Thats not to say TDK wont use HD-DVD as it will be available sooner and attractively priced, but TDK like many other companies want to be on the cutting edge of technology which means the higher capacity of Blu-Ray was chosen as the preferred format.
