Some very interesting yet worrying news from our good friends over at the bitburners website. Apparently the F-Secure anti virus software is picking up Sony's XCP (Extended Copy Protection) as a security threat!
"Anti virus and security company F-Secure has added Sony's XCP (Extended Copy Protection) in their virus descriptions database. While their analysis conclude that Sony XCP DRM software does not have a viral behaviour and it should be considered as a false postivise if reported by anti virus software, they do consider it as a security risk and very inappropriate. Besides utilizing hiding techniques, the XCP give the end user no means of uninstalling the software!"
Now we fully understand a companies right to protect their product but this is surely a step too far in our opinion. For confirmation check out the Secunia website where it has indeed been classified a security risk.
