It's not often we post news about the DVD industry helping the medical world but today we can bring you news published on the IT news website about such an occurrence with news about the new DVO 1000MD medical grade DVD recorder from Sony Electronics.
"Sony Electronics has introduced the DVO-1000MD, which it says is the industry's first medical-grade DVD recorder to include a built-in hard drive and use MPEG-2 video compression to capture images.
"Drawing on our expertise in video recording and storage technology, we've created a feature rich DVD recorder that will help improve patient workflow," said Evan Krachman, marketing manager for Medical Storage Systems at Sony Electronics. "It was designed so health-care professionals can make the transition to digital seamlessly. The function and interface controls are the same as those on our analog VCR (model SVO-9500MD), which has been used by the industry for the past 10 years".
The unit incorporates two features called DVORECOVERY and DVOFAST, which together are said to improve both patient workflow and ease of use.
The DVORECOVERY feature is a built-in 80 GB hard drive that stores up to 30 hours of video and protects recorded video from accidental power outages. During recording sessions video is streamed from the hard drive to a DVD+RW disk simultaneously, enabling instant recovery. In addition, referral copies can be made quickly using this feature, without the need to purchase additional equipment.
The DVOFAST feature allows DVD recording and removal in less than 90 seconds when the eject button is pressed. Sony said that as DVD+RW media was chosen for storing recorded video, finalization of the disk is not required. The DVOFAST feature is also said to eject disks three times faster when using the SONY DPW-120MD, medical-grade DVD+RW recordable media. A recorded disk can be removed in less than 35 seconds.
The disks are pre-formatted and verified, which reduces the time it takes to eject the disk. DVD+RW media provides playback compatibility with computers equipped with DVD players and consumer DVD models."
The Sony DVO-1000MD DVD recorder is currently available for a suggested list price of $3,195
