Hitachi & Toshiba-Samsung lower quotations for 8x slim-type DVD burners in order to compete for orders with Taiwanese manufacturers.
Quanta Storage, the largest producer of slim-type optical disc drives (ODDs) in Taiwan, and Lite-On IT, Taiwan’s largest maker of half-height ODDs, ship much smaller volumes of slim-type DVD burners than HLDS and TSST, but the two companies are ambitious to compete for orders in the segment. Local makers suggested the price cuts from HLDS and TSST are meant to ward off competition from Taiwan.
