This newspost is a full press release and has not been modified by our team of editors. Verbatim introduces ScratchGuard, a new ultra-hard protective coating designed to significantly prolong the life of high quality Verbatim DVDs.
ScratchGuard protected Verbatim DVD discs were recently tested for their
enhanced protective properties by subjecting the media to the "steel wool" test.
This involved rubbing the DVD media with steel wool to stimulate the potential
hazards of every day life. The test results proved that the Verbatim
ScratchGuard coating ensured that the discs are significantly less prone to day-
to-day scratches.
ScratchGuard provides a surface that does not become statically charged so does not attract any dust - dust acts like sandpaper when the disk spins in the
drive. At the same time ScratchGuard ensures that drops of liquid can more
easily bead and roll off the media - a spilt cup of coffee need no longer mean
the ruination of a disc and the information on it. Similarly with grease,
finger marks no longer leave smears on the surface. With the new coating,
Verbatim media can now claim protection against the most immediate causes of
wear and tear and accidents at the desk.
The ScratchGuard coating is already provided by Verbatim on all of its mini-
DVDs, the 8-cm disks are used mainly in camcorders.
Another area where ScratchGuard is also a must is. the new HD and Blu-Ray DVD generations. Designed for higher storage capacities on burners with a blue
laser light they are significantly more susceptible to dirt than conventional
DVDs. Using the new ScratchGuard coating, HD and Blu-Ray DVD discs will not need a special cartridge.
"New developments in the entertainment industry like HDTV and digital cinema
require storage capacities in entirely new dimensions. At the same time they
also require longer life spans to better protect valuable and comprehensive
content over the long term," said Torsten Leye, DVD product manager at Verbatim.
SWith ScratchGuard, Verbatim has once again shown that we analyse the market
with an eye to the future and continuously set new standards."
Ron Stuart, UK General Manager commented, "Verbatim is as the forefront of
research and development of storage media and brings to market products that
provide a very real benefits. Our products really do make a difference - they
ensure that life at the office and home is much easier when it comes to
reliability of storage media - and people know that Verbatim is a name they can
trust, and ScratchGuard is primary example of our continued development.
Verbatim Hard Coated DVD-R 8x is available in May 2006.
