"Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan and NEC Taiwan will respectively showcase their Blu-ray Disc (BD) and HD-DVD burners and players at the annual IT Month fair beginning in December in Taipei.
The Pioneer BD burners to be exhibited do not have content protection due to a delay in licensing of the anti-piracy AACS (advanced access content system), Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan indicated. Volume production of BD burners equipped with CCAS will begin next quarter, the company noted.
The HD-DVD players to be shown will have playback functions only with volume production to kick off in December, NEC Taiwan pointed out. The timing of the launch of HD-DVD burners will hinge on market conditions and the strategy adopted by the HD-DVD group, the company added."
So no promise of a release day as such as the final specifications seem to hinge on copy protection implementation. With Holographic DVDs around the corner, the HD DVD camp wil be looking to implement this as soon as possible to get a good market share.
