RPC1 have released news about a successful firmaware hack to the new Pioneer A107 8x DVDR+/- drive. It allows for 8X recording on a select few 4X rated DVDR+/- media, and also unlocks the ripping speed of the device above its default 2x speed. Please remember that flashing your drive with unauthorised firmware can cause you problems, but RPC1 have been hacking Pioneer firmwares for over a year now and have a good reputation for being as good at it as Pioneer themselves are.
"More technical details about this release:
As explained above, Pioneer limits the media you can burn at 8x (and 6x). With rev 1.05 the only media that are allowed by Pioneer to be written at 6x and 8x are the following:
TTG01 (TDK Generation 1)
SONY08D1 (Sony 8x Generation 1)
TYG02 (Taiyo Yuden Generation 2)
FUJIFILM03 (Fuji Generation 3)
TTG02 (TDK Generation 2)
MXL RG03 (Maxel Generation 3)"
Remember, patching your drive to region free is only half the job. A region free drive will not turn your system region free by itself. For more info, please read This Information
