"Philips Electronics aims to sell 30,000 DVD recorders and take 30-38% of the Taiwan market this year, according to Philips Taiwan.
The company estimates 80,000-100,000 DVD recorders will be sold in Taiwan this year.
In the first half of this year, Philips was the first international brand to launch an DVD recorder model below NT$10,000 (US$313), which helped it increase its sales volume 50% in the first half, Philips Taiwan pointed out.
Philips will launch two to three new DVD recorder models, including a model equipped with a 160GB HDD (the company expects HDD models to account for 30% of its shipments) during the second half of this year and it plans to launch five to six new models in the first quarter of 2006."
It is no surprise to see Philips gaining a foothold on the DVD recorder market. Using BenQ based drives has proofed to offer excellent DVD+R recording for many users and this we feel is why Philips are doing so well. Many forums including our own can testify to the very good value for money these drives offer.
The article continues to state that Pioneer also have a good 30% share of the market - these we feel is due to Pioneers excellent DVD-R recording capabilities.
