Optware today announced a detailed roadmap to commercialization of it's Holographic Versatile Disc technology today. Key elements mentioned in this roadmap are the the formation of an alliance to promote it's HVD, setting up an office in the U.S. and getting it's 200GB disc and a 30GB credit card-size storage format approved by ISO.
Before consumers will make use of this new technology, larger companies or governmental institutions such as hospitals will most likely be the first adapters of holographic storage techniques.
Optware believes the amount of digital data storage demand for this market will grow from about 167 petabytes (167 million gigabytes) in 2005 to 363 petabytes in 2007 as hospitals archive increasingly large data files such as digital X-rays and CAT scans, and increasingly make use of video images.
