"Unless you're a frequent CDRLabs reader, you're probably not familiar with Nu Technology Inc. Founded in May of 2003, they've been around for only a few months. Nevertheless, Nu Tech is no stranger to the world of optical storage. A subsidiary of Quanta Storage Inc., they already have a lot of experience under their belt. In a relatively short amount of time, Nu Tech's engineers have introduced a number of new products including a variety of internal and external combo drives and DVD writers.

The flagship of Nu Tech's line of DVD writers is the DDW-081. Announced this October, the DDW-081 takes DVD writing speeds to the next level. Based on Philips' new "Nexperia" platform, this new drive features 8x DVD+R and 4x DVD+R writing speeds and a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. Needless to say, Nu Tech hasn't stopped there. The DDW-081 also offers 40x CD reading and writing speeds, 10x rewriting speeds and features like Seamless Link buffer underrun protection. Best of all, Nu Tech's new DVD+RW drive comes at a very reasonable price.

With specs like this, the DDW-081 has the potential to be one the fastest DVD writers currently available.
