News has been released abut a product fault recall from Mintek. Much like the XBox power pack recall incident a few months back it seems that the power packs supplied with certain Mintek DVD players are overheating.
"WASHINGTON – Mintek Digital Inc., a division of French audio and video equipment maker Thomson , is recalling about 116,000 portable DVD player battery packs because of a fire risk while recharging, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.
The battery packs, used with the company's seven-inch, DVD-1710 model DVD player, "pose a burn and fire hazard," the commission said.
Mintek has received 10 reports of incidents, nine in which the battery packs have overheated and caught fire, and one in which it overheated and burst, the safety agency said.
The recalled battery packs were sold at electronics retailers and department stores nationwide, including Best Buy Co. Inc., from September 2002 through January 2005, for between $200 and $300. They are marked with serial numbers RB-LiP01 or RB-LiP02.
The Commission said consumers should immediately stop using and stop recharging the battery packs and contact Mintek for a free replacement at 1-866-709-9500 or via the Web at www.mintekdigital.com."
We strongly urge any CDR-Zone.COM readers with this model to contact Mintek straight away and please unplug the power pack until your replacement comes!
