This newspost is a full press release and has not been modified by our team of editors.

Verbatim has launched a 2.4 x speed 8cm DVD+R Double Layer disc that has almost double the storage capacity of previous media. It will be available in a 5-pack jewel case from June.

Recordable capacity now offered by each Verbatim Mini DVD+R is 2.6 GB on a single side, up from 1.4GB. The increased storage capacity will allow for approximately 55 minutes of continuous video to be recorded.

The media is compatible with the new drives and camcorders that will be introduced in June this year, and can be recorded with drives supporting the +R DL format.

Verbatim's Mini DVD+R DL is also backward compatible and can be played on the majority of current DVD players and drives. Recorded videos and photographs can be easily shared and viewed on a television or computer.

"DVD camcorder users want longer recording times." said Torsten Leye, Verbatim Marketing Manager Optical, "When consumers use the standard mode they can only record about 30 minutes of video on the current mini DVD discs. Our new Mini Double Layer DVD+R disc allows them to record nearly one hour of their children's football games, concerts, and other important events as a continuous recording on a single side of high quality media without the need to turn the disc over. So the risk of missing any important scenes is minimized."

For added protection discs benefit from Verbatim's unique hard coat ScratchGuard technology. Verbatim say that in tests the hard coat ScratchGuard layer proved to be nearly 50 times more protective from general wear and tear than discs without the coating.

Ron Stuart, General Manager, Verbatim UK commented, "When consumers buy Verbatim they know that they are buying a premium quality product, now that we've added out unique ScratchGuard protection to the new Mini +R DL media consumers can be confident that they have the best media on the market and that their special memories will be there for them to enjoy for many years to come."

As founder members of the DVD+RW Format Group Verbatim, along with its parent company Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), has been at the forefront of developing technologies and manufacturing processes that ensure reliability and durability at high speeds. Double Layer DVD+R technology was developed by MKM in collaboration with Philips other DVD+RW members. Verbatim was first to market in Europe with this media in April 2004.

Verbatim Mini DVD+R Double Layer 2.6GB 2.4x will be available from Verbatim retailers in June 2006. Price for the 5-pack jewel case will be approximately £4.99.
