Concord, ON, January 18, 2005:

Maxell Canada has announced DVD-Rpro, a new premium line of media designed to withstand abuse and contaminants, incorporating technologies that Maxell says results in “the utmost DVD durability for long-term data protection”. The 4.7GB DVD-Rpro media features Maxell’s MAXPRO Hardcoat technology, which produces a media surface that the Company claims is 40 times more scratch-resistant, and 20 times more dust-resistant than standard DVD media.

Its anti-static quality prevents damage in harsh or dusty environments, Maxell adds, as well as for applications that might require frequent media handling and interchange such as jukeboxes. The new protective coating is also resistant to smudges, water, and fingerprints, all of which can be easily wiped off the disc. The high-quality, propriety dye further ensures data integrity and longevity, Maxell notes.

"Recordable DVD technology is a key data storage platform for a broad spectrum of business customers and applications including imaging, backup, archiving, data transfer and content distribution,” commented Hiroshi Kobayashi, Product Manager at Maxell Canada. “DVD technology also provides an affordable, high-capacity storage medium for consumers looking to save priceless digital photographs and digital video footage. DVD-Rpro meets the most stringent government data retention requirements. It satisfies the media reliability and data protection needs of business users as well as consumers who demand long archival life and extra protection for their irreplaceable data. This is media that may outlive us, but not outlive our data."

Maxell's 8X DVD-R Pro is currently available, with 16X DVD-R Pro media planned for availability in March 2005.
