Anton Linecker, editor at Macworld, has taken a quick look at two DVD Copy solutions for the Macintosh platform: Roxio's Popcorn vs. DVD2One.
The speed of the encoding, and it's wide variety of options are in favour of DVD2One. Popcorn, which the editor thinks is easier to use, has an in-built burning DVD burning option, and is cheaper due to the current dollar to euro exchange rate. Therefore Macworld's buying advice is in favour of Roxio's Popcorn.
...Legal questions aside, the result is high-quality software, although Roxio’s Popcorn is easier to use...
Due to the rising exchange rate of the U.S. dollar versus the Euro, DVD2one’s DVD2oneX is now significantly more expensive than Roxio’s Popcorn. Considering that Popcorn also includes some of Toast’s DVD-burning abilities, it definitely has a leg-up on its European counterpart.
DVD2oneX has been on the scene for Macs for a few years and works very well, but Roxio’s newcomer, though slower in compression, brings more to the table. Until the Euro falls again, Popcorn is the better deal.
We haven't tested these software ourselvers, but we feel that for many consumers Popcorn IS the better deal, but for the more experienced users DVD2One offers the best solution.
