To kick off the week, CDRLabs (www.cdrlabs.com) has taken a look Lite-On's 52/24/52 CD-RW, the LTR-52246S. While affordably priced, this drive sports some of the fastest speeds currently available.

The LTR-52246S reads and writes at 52x, rewrites at 24x and rips audio CD's at a blazing 48x. The drive also has its share of features including Lite-On's SMART-BURN and SMART-X technologies and support for the Mt. Rainier format. In this review we take a look at some of the features found on the LTR-52246S and then put it up against some of the 52x writers from the competition. "As a writer, the LTR-52246S is hard to beat. While the drive's average writing speed is slower than most of the other 52x writers we've looked at, it flew through our writing tests in record time. The LTR-52246's media compatibility was also very good. We tested the drive with media from many different manufacturers, and it was able to write to most of it at 52x. More importantly, it didn't sacrifice writing quality to do so."
