Images of Holographic Versatile Disc prototype

The Japanese website PC Watch has published images of the next-next-gen format, Holographic Versatile Disc, HVD in short.
While the HVD disc shown on the picture is the exact same size as a normal CD and DVD, the HVD disc on the picture can store upto 1TB of data, which is more that 120x the maximum storage capacity of a Dual/Double Layer DVD!
Theoratically, HVD can story upto 3,9TB and has transfer speeds upto 1Gbps.

According to Optoware, we can expect the first HVD products in the summer of 2006, not much later then Blu-ray and HD-DVD is expected to become more mainstream.
