Gigabyte Offers Fast But Silent DVD Burner

Gigabyte has announced a new DVD recorder called the GO-W1616A that offers 8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW recording speeds, in addition to 16x DVD+R and DVD-R recording. As with any drive of this type, getting hold of the media that supports its cutting edge speeds is always going to be an issue but if you can get hold of some, Gigabyte states that the drive can burn 8.5GB dual layer DVD+R9 discs at 4x writing speeds.

Gigabyte claims that the GO-W1616A's rewritable speeds make it the fastest drive on the market. This isn’t quite true however, as the NEC-3520 got there first. It offers the same DVD burning speeds and is on sale already. In addition to its DVD writing speeds the GO-W1616A can burn CD at 48x and rewritable CDs at 24x. CD-ROM is read at 48x.

Gigabyte's buffer-underrun technology, to eliminate the burning of coasters, is called Intelligent Burning SuperLink (I.B.S). In addition, i-Speed Technology intelligently adjusts reading speeds, which Gigabyte claims results in benefits such as saving power, saving CPU resources and increasing the product’s lifespan. Meanwhile i-Burn Technology will automatically adjust to the optimum burning speed during the recording process according to media type.

The drive sounds as though it could be a good bet for those looking to keep their system noise down even under load thanks to Gigabyte’s VRS (Vibration Reduction System). This has been engineered to reduce vibration, perform virtually silently and also provide better stability when the drive is operating at high speed.

The drive is available in either beige of black and is bundled with Nero Express 6 and PowerDVD.
