Europe, 16th of April 2004 – BenQ announced the world’s first 8x DVD+/-RW re-writer with firmware upgrade to DVD+R double-layer recordable drive. BenQ DW822A is designed for customers in search of something different among the existing dual DVD+/-RW drives. It provides a free firmware upgrade feature to become a double-layer recordable drive. The firmware features 2.4x DVD+R double-layer recording speed and will be available in the beginning of Q4-2004, when double-layer media becomes more accessible in the market.
The DVD+R double-layer technology is a break-through in data storage. Not only will it instantly double data storage capacity on DVD recordable discs from 4.7GB to 8.5GB, so you can backup double data, photos, digital music at once or store up to 16 hours home video you taken with VHS quality. It also allows for DVD title backup on a single DVD disc without compromising quality. The new technology will remain backwards compatible with existing DVD video pleasure and DVD-ROM drives.
BenQ DW822A, extending the reputation of the superior writing quality from DW800A DVD+RW drive by exclusive Smart Writing technologies, brings users dual DVD+/-RW recording capability and the advanced version of QVideo 2.0 to provide users an easy DV/TV/AV to DVD tool. The drive supports Book Type Management and enables easy switching from DVD+R/RW to the most compatible DVDROM format. Because with the BenQ DW822A, you can now start experiencing seamless real-time recording from multiple video sources, or large data backup capacity, and then upgrade it to a double-layer recordable drive when the media becomes available later this year. The DW822A, with the DVD+R double-layer upgradeable feature, solidifies BenQ’s position as a leader in the optical disc device market.
