Acoustica has been kind enough to offer CDR-Zone the latest version of Acoustica CD Label Maker to take a closer look at it for our readers. Read on to find out what CDR-Zone thought about this software.
Introduction:
Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker is a tool to Create your own CD/DVD labels and jewel cases with the ultimate in ease and flexibility! If you are sick of guessing what songs are on what CD, get the label maker that automatically puts your track list on your CD/DVD label! Chock full of custom art for holidays and special occasions like Christmas, Valentines, birthdays, vacations, weddings and more! Automatically imports your track information from Acoustica MP3 CD Burner, iTunes, WinAmp, Easy CD Creator or any other popular play list or previously burnt CD! Print on standard paper or stock sticker labels and jewel case templates.

Usage:

Once the program was started, there automaticly appeared a pop-up a wizard guiding the user through the cover designing part. The next screen allows for the choose of formats of CD/DVD covers.
You can choose between the folloing options:
Audio CD
DVD (Movie Box)
Mini/Pocket Audio CD

After selecting the label to design you can select from a few predefined layouts like text only, valetine, etc. but later it is still possible to add just any setting by these predefined layouts
When you choose the layout you want a new screen with a super handy feature comes up which allows you to import a play list from WinAMP, etc. but you can also read it from a CD.>

Once Read CD was selected, the contents of the CD where read automatically and all relevant information was retrieved from an internet database. For people with ADSL this is not so problem, but incase you have a dail-up account and you are not connected to the net it can be irritating you have to connect to the internet to get the information. But incase you don't want to connect to the net you can also type everything in by hand. In the next screen it asks about the title which you can modify incase you got the CD information from the net.
When this is all is done you will come to the default layout which of course you can adjust to your own preferences.
You can adjust the text settings to all kind of formats and layouts, one thing I personally like that you can remove the text on the CD Sticker layout, with a single press on a button since you don't always like to have the songnames on the CD Sticker. Many things can be adjust like Font settings, Text layouts, also in a text layout you can change how the text is displayed you have many freedoms, only pitty thing is there is no way to make your self default layouts which is to our opinion a good feature to have in such kind of program.
If you want to have extra you can perform a search on your local harddrives, but also you can use Art Explore to point where it is locacte, an option which was a bit missing but it is in most programs is to be able to use cover websites to search for the cover of the CD. Also it is possible to add shape art to the layout in the form of a heart, star, etc. which is fully scalable. A good thing of the program is that you can select what kind of label you want to print, not always you want to print a CD Sticker too.
Conclusion:
The layout is so easy and clear, so that even users without any experience at all could use this tool without problems only small thing we found is that you have to press the text part to be albe to modify the text or how it is printed, pitty enoug it is was nowhere mention so people could be searching a bit for it but if you know where it is you will love the features in that menu.
This is program is so easy in usage and it can be directly used from Acoustia MP3 CD Burner, a part from a few small things we think most people would love this tool and for the price you really don't have to leave it.
A thing which could be a nice feature for a tool like this if it was possible to download covers with the program from some cover web pages.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
Very easy to use, even somebody with much experience is able to make a full CD cover in 1 minute
Possibility to select what to print.
Many things which can be adjust to your personal preference
Cons:
Internet connection is needed (not so big con since more and more people have cable internet or adsl)
No option to make yourself default layouts which you can use right away next time
If you want extra art packages from Acoustia you have to buy them, it would have been nicer if they were already included in the package since the artwork which is delivered with the program is a bit limited.
Small con is that even if you did register there still keeps an Icon in the menu which says you have to buy the program it would be nicer if that one was removed after is was registrated.
Text options a bit hidden, not unfindable but it would be better for the less experienced users if it was more clear where they are.
