The A-Ray scanner walk-thru

Many thanks must go to Chaosmaker for submitting this guide for our CDR-Zone.COM readers on how to use the A-Ray Scanner.

The A-Ray scanner walk-thru, this is not the definitive answer to anyone's problems or trouble they may have with A-Ray Protection Scanner but it should make it easier for those not quite sure where to begin or how to read and obtain the full protection from a disk that is copy protected. The scanner works with data, games, DVD's and music protections, just follow along and the protections should be revealed to you, for this walk-thru I used games because I have no copy protected music CD's. Lets get started, first thing we need to do is open the scanner or insert the CD to be read either one is fine.

1:

As you can see in the above picture all I did was open A-Ray and the first thing you see is the user interface, and the selections you have to conduct your scan. Scan is simply that you can scan the CD that is protected and A-Ray should reveal the protection. Now after you have opened A-Ray it would be a good time to insert the CD you plan to scan as seen in the next picture.

2:

The Games I used were both Pain Killer and  Breed. If the device you plan to scan with is not the default device then just hit the drop down and change it to the device you plan to scan with, as seen above. Once you have chosen the correct device it would be time to conduct the scan, simply use the scan button as seen below:

3:

After you have hit the scan button you will notice a lot of activity in the very bottom window, and if A-Ray was successful at finding the protection on the CD not only will it be displayed in the middle window as seen above, in this case Pain Killer, and as you can see the protection found was Safe Disc 3.20 and it took approximately .23 seconds to find it. Now some people complain that for them that's just not enough they want the full version of the protection that was found, no problem. The next thing we can do to obtain the full protection is scan the installation directory, simply choose the Scan Dir. button:

4:

and then browse to the installation directory:

5:

and click ok, A-Ray will then scan the entire installation directory and it will reveal the entire protection version:

6:

As you can see A-Ray found Safe Disc 3.20.022 and it took 2.9 seconds, it took a little longer but it gave the full version just as people asked for. That's about it for the quick run-thru it's fast and simple and if you follow this guide you shouldn't have any trouble.
