As I've made quite a dent in my stock of Yuden id'd Fuji 8x media recently, I've been looking for a replacement. New 'source' for me for Taiyo Yuden Silver Thermal 8X DVD+R Media w/ MID of YUDEN000T02.8 according to DVDidentifier. Got it via this link: http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-plus-r-media-2001.html Media came in 100disk spindle packs, with Yuden cover paper & a plastic seal band around the bottom with TAIYO YUDEN DVD+R8X, Disk MID YUDEN000 T02 printed on it. Disks have a silver lacquer top with no imprinting on it. There is something stamped in the hub, but I can't read it with my weak eyes. First sample of a working burn with My #2 BenQ DW1620pro, which now has the new B7W9 f/w installed. (when I get a chance I have a long post re new system setups for the Chit-Chat forum; now have BOTH of my DW1620pro writers in use in different systems) 2 scans of the disk; the first my usual with my Samsung TS-H552B writer, & the second with the BenQ the disk was burnt in. The source has a lot on "avoiding fake yuden media, so supposedly this is the *real* thing. Comment For SirQUK: I dunno, here's the scans of the first burn, do ya think it's 'real'?? *grin* Actually, IMO this 8x +R Yuden stuff is still prob the most reliable media around (at least for the DVDwriters I have); don't know if Yuden is still making the stuff, but supermediastore appears to still have a good stock of it available, & I'll probably be grabbing some more when I can. a cat =^.^=

addendum: If you look closely, the Scan with the BenQDW1620pro ran up to 16x whereas thes Samsung scan maxed at 8x. Also, after doing the BenQ scan I checked the disk & found a fingerprint on the outer edge. So I cleaned that off & rescanned the disk (again at max, which peaks at 16x). Looks a little better this time w/o the effects of the print. ;-} a cat =^.^=

Welcome back Acat. As always happy to see you sharing your experiences with our members. I'm quite confident that's proper TY media you have there. yes they no longer maufacturer the 8x media so it's soon to run out you would think. Grab it while you can. Was this recording done at 8x? and nice to see the 'ole 1620 still alive and kicking!

for SirQUK; tch, tch, yer not reading da notes on da scan images. It was a 12x burn. Done with my second DW6120pro; but the first one IS still alive & kicking with well over 700 recorded burns & many more I didn't keep records on. & You'd better believe I've got plans ta grab a few hundred more of these TY T02 8x +R disks while I can! Been a rough year, but I got plenty of info w/ scans to pass on re various media brands I've tried this year as I get the time & chance to do so. Some good, some bad; But in the long run it comes down to Verbatim & Taiyo Yuden being the most reliable of all for 'me'; which is why I'm latching on to more TY while I can. & I'm sure there's other like me who wish to keep their older DVDwriters going as long as they can, so I'll pass on my experiences with the media I've tried. Also, in this case the U.S. supplier mentioned appears reliable as long as the user selects from the better stuff they have (they do have lower quality & cheaper media available also). I also got some Verbatim +R DL disks from them, & the 2 orders which were made separately the same nite were packaged together & shipped out the next day. Arrived one day earlier than stated also. Prices may not be the flat cheapest; but I was sure of what I was getting, & did catch a 10% coupon deal on the TY & free shipping on both which made the final cost decent.

Since I was sure someone would 'holler' cause I scanned at 'max' (16x) with the BenQ 1620, I rescanned this burn with it at 8x for a straight comparison with the Samsung's 8x scan. The slower scan cleaned that pif clump at the end right up, making it very similar to the Samsung's scan when ya take the 1ecc to 8ecc difference into account. Also flattened the 'jitter' curve out at the end too. & the comparison of this scan to the Samsung's should illustrate why *I* feel that the Samsung does make a reliable drive for scanning burns done with the BenQ1620. Course having *Top Quality* media makes comparisons like this more possible too.

Just to show that my dwindling stock of Fuji 8x +R media with the Yuden000_T02 mid is also still doing well here's a scan of a recent burn at 12x with this media in my Orig (#1) BenQ DW1620.
As is usual here, scanned with my Samsung TS-H552B.
Actually, this is above average for my results to this media, but many of my burns to it do run in this range & only a very few fail to meet my rather high standards (min DQ score of 90).
Fact is, this MID has the best acceptance rate for *me* of any; even with the good Verbatim 16x +R MCC_004 stuff I get a higher reject rate, even tho some my flat Best burns are to this Verbatim media.
= = = = = = = = = = =

Also, re the availability of Taiyo Yuden Yuden000_T02 from Supermediastore:

My initial order of this media was for 200 pcs silver thermal top in 100pk spindles.

Then shortly afterwards the dialogs on the supermediastore website changed to only reflect this being available in 50pc spindles.
& as the price that way was the same as the white printable, I switched to ordering the white inkjet printable version which came in tape wrapped 100pks (I don't print to this, but it takes markers better than the silver thermal surface & looks better imo).
My initial order of this variant was for 400pcs, then later I ordered another 200pcs.

Then a couple weeks ago due to a 'special' (better price with free frt) I ordered another 200 of the silver thermal topped version; surprisingly, even tho the website stated 50pk spindles, the media arrived in 100pk spindles just like my initial order!

For comparison, I'm including scans of a couple of test burns to the White InkJet printable version; one with my BenQ 1620 #2 which actually is just a bit better than my average for this MID in the Fuji rebranded version, & another with my BenQ DW1655 which was one of the Better burns to this Mid with this drive.

In the post above, the first scan was of a recent burn to a
Fujifilm 8x +R with the MID of Yuden000_T02 blank
done at 12x with my #1 BenQ DW1620pro.

Since that burn was done, I have done 8 more consecutive 12x burns to the same media that actually have gotten scans that can be called 'better' (same PIF max with lower PIF total) than the above posted one;
including THIS one which took my personal crown for the BEST +R single layer burn I've ever gotten away from the Verbatim 16x +R MCC_004 MID media (that burn had a 98 DQ score with max PIF of 1 & total of 37, and max PIE of 20 with total of 39,030 - it also was a bit shorter at 4173meg).

Anyway, I *think* I can call this one an "excellent" burn. *bfg*
I wish they ALL looked like this !!!

P.S. to SirQUK; a HUGE "THANK YOU" for the steer to the BenQ DW1620 many moons back.
BEST 'advice' I've ever gotten. ;-}
Both the 1620's I have have proved excellent with good media & WELL worth the $ I spent getting them !!!!!
