No Sound or Subtitles after following all guides (mkv)

Hi, ill start at the beginning, as I know it all helps. Firstly I was given a film by a friend, its subtitled in English as it is a Studio Gibly (don’t know the spelling) film, Howls Moving Castle. The film was in the format .mkv the first I had seen. So I goggled .mkv and found the combined community codec pack ( I use core player on my computer, and this is what they recommended. The film worked fine, but my computer desk isn’t exactly the best place for a group of us to sit round at watch it, so I set about burining it to dvd.

I have been trying to burn this one file for a while. Firstly I just rushed into it, went through what I thought would work for the program, but clearly it didn’t, the disc didn’t even run. (I think the disc was removed before it could be finalized, if that makes sense) So after that I started to search online, I went through all the forums, and all the guides I could find, and thought I had it sorted, once again nothing. So again I looked around some more, found that you had to separate subtitles from .mkv files, also I changed the settings in convert x so it wouldn’t eject the DVD when finished, giving it a chance to Finalize the burn, this time I also set it to not remove the files, so if it went wrong I could perhaps burn them through a different program. But this time, although the dvd played, it had no sound, or subtitles. So after even more searching I still cant find what would be wrong. I looked at the files through DVD shrink, and although it has an audio channel, when I run the preview there is no sound as well as no sign of any subtitles, anyone have any idea?
