|
|
| I am new to these DVD issues and just recently purchased a DVD player. My PC does not have a DVD burner just a DVD-ROM Drive and a CD-RW Drive. I was curious to know if it was possible to burn in some way or form an MPEG on a CD-RW Drive so that it could be played on a home DVD player? I have no problem with JPEGs except a few that wind up only as a ? in the menu list box once the folder is open (error message says" cannot open file"). My real problem is the MPEGs which wind up the same way as those few JPEGs that won't open (error message cannot open file). None of the MPEGs I have recorded onto CD-Rs have ever played on my DVD player but play just fine on my PC. Is there any way of fixing this problem and if possible without having to purchase something more because the DVD,VCR, recorder player was enough bucks for now? |

Hi cos,
l am just new to this also but you should read the dvd players manual to see if it accepts CD disks, it may only take dvd disks.
My cousin has a DVD player that is capable of reading .avi, mp3, xvid, formats etc, but only on DVD disks.

as Kookee mentions above, check the manual for the formats the player recognizes.
Look for VCD (Video CD) or SVCD (SuperVideo CD) as recognized disk formats; most will recognize SVCD since it uses mpeg-2 video encoding as DVD does, some will play both.
These are specially formatted CD's for Video playback; VCD using mpeg-1 for base encoding & SVCD using mpeg-2 for base encoding.
The video clips used to make these disks do require being within certain specifications to make the disks properly; further information re this & burning the disks can be found at: www.videohelp.com
Nero can burn these disk types to CD, & will offer to recode out of spec videos to the proper form for these disks if such video is loaded.
However it is best to have the clips properly encoded with a better editor before loading them in Nero for burning.
Other Disk Burning software can also do these disk formats (tho Nero is all I've personally used), info re those can also be found at the above site.
With Nero, basic Menus can be made for the disks during the burn setup.
Also: *some* players will also recognize & play a format called MiniDVD that can be burnt to CD. This is basically a small/short DVD burnt to CD with the same type disk layout.
IF the player recognizes this one (support for this one in players quite a bit less that the above 2 AFAIK), Nero (in the full version) can also be used for making these. Again, videohelp.com for more info on how to do this.
All DVD players I've run across will play at least one (if not more) of the above formats as long as the disks are properly burnt.
note: there are some DVD players that will play VCD's that don't list this in their 'specs'; I believe this is due to licensing issues.
Lastly, don't know where you are; but in the US, careful shopping (esp on the net) can come up with decent DVD burners in the $30 range (esp Lite-On models @ newegg).
However, often the cheaper ones are OEM models & come w/o burning s/w. |

| I 've been in this field for some time, Before taking any step forward, first go through the manuals of your DVD player. Most players of recent can play different formats of videos. This is always labelled on your DVD player or package. CDRs, and CDRWs normally play in DVD players given the right coding format like MP3 format, Music format and Mostly VCDs if your DVD supports VCDs. But with the research I carried out my self, it has not been very easy and at times it has been never that DVD players can play CDRWs. Nero normally provides provisions of making your movie formats that can easilly play in your kind of players. |
