|
|
| My Dell notebook came installed with a Sonic dvd copier program. I have been using it to drag-and-drop movie and application files I've downloaded off the internet from my desktop to the DVD-R's. It worked well until I needed to reinstall my OS XP. After reinstalling XP, I found out that I was not shipped the Sonic installer cd's. I tried to put my DVD-R's into my drive but none of them seems to contain data as they all appear blank when My Computer points to Drive D:. Looking at my properties, I can see the disc is full so it means my files are still in the discs. True enough, I tried downloading Isobuster and it saw the files intact. However, I don't believe that there's anything wrong with the discs necessitating recovery by Isobuster, it's just my post-OS reinstalled notebook wouldn't read the damn discs. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can solve this? I have a pretty huge collection and it's such a waste to lose them all... |

| Hi Asskicker and welcome to our forums, Sounds to me like it may be possible that a version of sonics 'driver' called pxhelp may be interferring. We have seen this a lot at cdr-zone. Ulukai created a simple file to list your installed drivers ( also known as filters ). The file saves all the info to a text file which you can copy and paste into here. It would be useful to see if such a driver is installed. |

I've tried to research about pxhelp and it seems to be one nasty file. I tried to make a search in my drive C: for this but search returned "0" files. However, you said Ulukai made a "filter file", I tried to search your forum for this but got lost where to get it. Do you have any idea where I can get this? |

I opened my notepad see if it automatically copied anything but paste is not even an option. Assistance please... |

| ok now we now we have no filters interferring ( this is good as the system itself should be clean ) we can try other methods. I have jeard of windows sometimes refusing to refresh a drives contents upon insertion of new media b4 but never experienced this myself. Did you write these files with a packet writing software? IF so you may need that software to fully see it. I'm inclined to think that this may be a software issue as Sonic stuff can be picky about the system it is on. If other software can see the drive ok I would try unistalling the sonic software, rebooting and seeing if the drive still shows as empty. If no other software can see the contents besides ISO buster I would believe it is a drive issue. |

| case update: The sonic cd installer finally came in from the pc manufacturer. After installing Sonic DigitalMedia LE v7, I can finally see again the files contained in the dvd-r discs. It appears after burning dvd's using sonic software it won't work on any dvd drive unless it's installed with that particular sonic software. Proprietary B.S. has won! I'm forever stuck with Sonic (boo!!!) But thanks for your help, this is a great site I'm adding to my favorites. |
