| Hi Jason and welcome to our forums windows always reports blank media as having 0 bytes used/free. If you cannot burn then we must look at a few other factors. What writer are you using what firmware does that drive have What media are you trying to record to What software have you tried to burn with?

| well im not sure what some of those questions mean but what i do no is that i am using nero to burn the dvd/cds. but anyway i can tell that it burnt something because i can see the burn marks on the cd. but the dvd-r still wont work on my dvd player. (although it plays dvd-r). but do you think that the file im burning is faulty? it is a .mpeg file. and also my computer didnt use to say 0 bytes used 0 buytes free it only started happening about 2 weeks ago. on both my computers. but i hope this information helps you to help me. thanks

Can u tell me the name of the dvd-r you are using to record to? I have attatched a software in a zip file. This can tell me all I need to know if you can please try it. Unzip and goto the system tab. please take a screenshot ( top right hand cormer camera icon ) and attatch it in your reply. A screenshot of the media tab would be great too ( if you could place a blank dvd-r in and then attatch the screenshot again to your reply )

Hi again Jas I forgot u need vso software drivers in to use inspector [Installing any VSO software such has Copytodvd or convertx will do this and then inspector will hopefully work ]. Tuffdisc to me is a middle of the range brand and one that I only ever used for quick data backup. I much prefer Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media for DVD Video backups. Yes it is more expensive but you can pick up a 25 disc spindle of Taiyo Yuden/Verbatim media for around £8 in the UK which is excellent value for money in my opinion. This of course does not solve your problems of not being able to burn your disc [apologies for going off track]. There may be other issues here which we need to look into called upper/lower filters which can interfere with burning. Also virtual drives and packet writing software can interfere with recording. Ulukai made a nice little tool which lets us know what filters are installed on your system. the thread is located here: http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4719 Could you please run the tool and check the text file results and post the findings here please? I am still interested in what recording device you have too so any info you can give me on that is appriciated.

| Cheers for that Jas this reports shows me that PXHELP is installed and this is a filter known to be problematic with certain setups. There is a way to remove all filters but it will mean you will find software associated with these filters will no longer work. This merely means a reinstall of any affected software. We do need to see what software installed pxhelp though [ my guess is winamp ]. There are quite a few threads discussing the affects of pxhelp located in our hardware forum: http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4719 Under the other links section, you can see related threads. If this is your dads pc please show him the thread before attempting any of this. If needed I can supply a tool to remove all filters. You would then need to reinstall padus diskjuggler for example to put back the Padus ASPI Shell required by that software. If you do have winamp installed and need to reinstall it, you would need to uncheck the ripping and burning add on options to make sure pxhelp doesnt come back. I'm one of the few that actually users windows media player 10 and find it ample for my needs. Again check with your dad b4 going ahead !

| wait, i tried burning another disk and it worked on my dvd player but on the computer it said 0 bytes free and 0bytes used although this time i could view the files on the dvd. but on the disk it didnt have the 1 file instead it had a folder called video_ts on it, is this meant to be on? but anyway now that i can see the data does that mean i need to do those other things? also it appeared once that i had 0 free space and a number of used memory.

| The Video_TS folder is needed by some dvd palyers to help it detect the fact a dvd rom has been inserted etc. A lot of dvd players do not need such a folder but it is always good practice to make sure a Video_ts folder is present for such compliations. Maybe your issue is media related and some of the tuffdisc are too tough to burn too?
