Maybe I should rephrase that to "You can probably find all you need to know about PS2 backup here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/50" For everything else stick with CDR-Zone.com! |

Thanks for that. I will stay here tho. Is cdrwin still good for backing up ps1 games or is there something better. I used this years ago as clonecd didnt support my burner. I now use a pioneer 105 dvd burner

As far as i know CloneCD and Blindwrite both support most PS1 games without the need for patching ( It has been a long time since I needed to back up a PS1 game). Of course you stil need the modchip or swap trick to play them.

CDRWin was the only app that I could get to work consistantly for PS1 backups. I always had to write them at 2x or it didn't always work. I haven't done a PS1 backup for years though, CloneCD or Blindwrite may be better. I don't think they were around back then (could be wrong). I've never tried PS2 backups.

A brief DvdDecrypter tutorial for backing up PS2 games from my good friend psx_paul: Open up the DVD Decrypter program. Before you insert your PS2 original DVD, from the menu select Mode>ISO>Read. Select your Source drive. Insert your PS2 original DVD. DVD Decrypter should recognize the DVD and compile some information about it. Select your destination area on your hard disk where you want to store the ISO image. Then click on the DVD > Hard Disk button at the bottom of the screen. DVD Decrypter then extracts the files from the DVD and builds an ISO image onto your hard disk. This will take a short while depending on the size of the DVD and the read speed of your DVD reader. Once DVD Decrypter has finished building the ISO image onto your hard disk, it will alert you “Operation Successfully Completed!”. It will also play a little music sample. Burn the image from hard disk back to DVD-R/DVD+R From the menu select Mode>ISO>Write. Select your destination drive (your writer) and insert your blank DVD disc. DVD Decrypter should recognize the blank DVD and compile some information about it. Tick the “BURN-Proof” check-box (if applicable). OPTIONAL – Tick the “Test Mode” check-box if you wish to perform a test write prior to the actual write. From the Settings area select “DVD” as the write mode. From the Settings area select your write speed. Then click on the Hard Disk > DVD button at the bottom of the screen. DVD Decrypter will then start to write the ISO image to your DVD disc. Once DVD Decrypter has finished writing the ISO image onto your blank DVD disc, it will alert you “Operation Successfully Completed!”. It will also play a little music sample. A short note: Rumours are that some of the latest PS2 games, like Gran Turismo 4,come on a dvd-9,which means that you have to have a dual-layer burner and dual-layer discs, because you can't shrink those games to fit on dvd-5,(at least not in an easy way)unlike dvd movies...

Thanks Roadworker for the tutorial. Now I need to get it mod chipped. Any advice or do I just take it to my local computer fair ( bowlers, Manchester ) to let them do it. Which one is the easiest to use and how much should I pay. Bear in mind its mainly for my 8 yr old son as the backups are because he keeps wrecking the originals !!!!

While the DVD Decrypter method works for "normal" PS2 games, there is still a great debate on how to backup GT4. One guy has claimed to have got it working, but i have yet to see any proof of this.

Rumors are, that you even can't backup it on an empty dvd-9 with a recorder that supports double layer, due to the fact that the correct navigation structure is gone on the backup, because the second layer of the dvd is read as opposite track path when you create a backup of it... If the original layer order is pressed as parallel track path, your backup won't work properly..... Hope for ya that the rumors are wrong.....
