| Thanks for the heads up, looks like a nice piece of troubleshooting software. And if it's indeed as picky as IfoEdit's player then it seems only better. |

I am. And this one works for me. However I just uninstalled ffdshow right before I saw this news. So maybe ffdshow was the problem. Will try with a new version of ffdshow codec's to see if the problem comes back. UPDATE: Crashes with ffdshow-20040718 so now I have to see if I can live without it |

pleased to hear you got it working booster That ffdshow rings a bell also as that was a another thing I was unin/installing my PC is still not right because at the minute I cannot play .wmv files with any player at all but I've left just recently as I don't want to upset it completely again @Mirx, it's helpful at times but if you can also use Ifoedit's player then you have the best of both worlds |

I really like this player If you open the Registers and dvd navigation log, you can actually see the register values, and see which button etc. should be highlighted. It's a perfect information source for what I'm working on now (fixing a menu structure to match a crippled disc). |

| Could be nice though if it where possible to step thru the VM commands. I use DVD-Remake to blank stuff out and then change the VM command to bypass that. That involves changing the Registers. Some are in First Play section, and in the player it goes thru them so fast that I can't see what the registers changes to. Maybe I'm overlooking a setting or something ? |

@MackemX, thanks for the heads up. | booster wrote: | | ...That involves changing the Registers. Maybe I'm overlooking a setting or something ? | Booster, I think most of what you need for bypass edits is there. As you noted, the register changes would be difficult to follow as they change. However, you can pause at your final destination and see the settings at that point. For example, you might let the disk run until it gets to the main menu, then pause the player and look at the register tables to see what settings would be needed if you were to jump directly to that location. Sometimes you can make the settings changes and jump directly, and sometimes you need a dummy jump to a domain that allows particular settings to be made. (I have to admit that I still manually track things just to verify the path and settings.) Paul |

@booster, I just checked that DRM only updates IFO's now the idiot way which is to ask first then check after . What you could do is change the cells that you remove to have a still of say 5 seconds instead this will give you the time to check what is what everytime it plays something new I think and as pak2 mentions you could also set the values once you get to the menu if you think it will be OK p.s. just thought , the player saves a log text file and also saves any value change etc. Have you seen this? |

In particular, it seems to skip the “first play” settings and just shows a “navigated to silly person” entry. After that the log does seem to record most register changes. I use the log mostly to verify my manual tracking of the navigation. On the other hand, the register tables appear to be an accurate list of settings at any point of play (I think). I do agree with the desire to have a tool to "step" through the playback navigation sequence. It would really be nice to have a tool that combines editing with playback. (I can dream, can't I.) I haven't really used it in depth as I have got most tests to work without major investigation you could change all the blank cell times to infinity, then you can have step by step in most parts and step by using the FF button obviously it won't be command step by step (now that would be great) |

I've just checked out the Help (Help what's that ) in this player when looking for a link to the site. It's actually quite informative in places such as the DVD Authoring Preferences as it contains descriptions of the DVD layout and VM commands |

It's actually quite informative ..... as it contains descriptions of the DVD layout and VM commands | Thanks for pointing this out. I wasn't aware Tray Player even had a help file, and the parts you mention are good. The format is a nice complement to the more detailed explanations in The Unofficial DVD Specifications Guide referenced by the DVDReMake site. It does raise a suggestion I’ve made before. DRM needs a simple cross-reference / glossary for its VM commands and parameters. It’s user-friendly syntax doesn’t match outside references, so the newbie has to struggle with new concepts while guessing how they translate to DRM. (Let’s see, who’s familiar with DVD stuff and has been known to contribute guides? ). Paul |
