|
|
| I have noticed through my firewall that DivxToDVD is trying to connect to the Internet almost every time when I am starting to convert a movie. Is it going to update? If "yes" - then why update so often? Or is it spying? Anyway, how could I switch off the updates? Except using my firewall. |

| Can you tell whether it's a one off burst of comms or does it keep up a stream? Also, are you sure it does it each time you press "Convert"? That would be suspect because the log window reports an auto-update on first loading the app instance, so why would it do it again when pressing convert. If it is just the check it does when you open it then that would be the most sensible time for it to do it and therefore isn't worth worrying about. Did anyone get informed by this 'feature' that a new version was in fact available on Saturday? |

| I tried this once again. At the start of the prog the firewall didn't ask for permission. I loaded a little file to convert, started it and almost at the end of the conversion my Sygate firewall informed me that the "DivxToDVD application has changed since the last time I used it and if I would like to allow it connect" I allowed it. It didn't seem to keep up a stream for long. But does it really need to keep it up for long for any purpose? |

| Not necessarily, it's just if you are worried about spyware etc. a sustained exchange of data would be the most likely, that's all. Do you get the "Autoupdate complete" in the log when you first start it up? That, in theory, should trigger some attempt at internet comms and wake-up your firewall. I could see it being beneficial for them to have some automated logging of the source formats the app has been presented with and such things as it's encode performance stats etc. Would you really care if that is what they are doing? I'm not saying that is the case. This is pre version 1 so it might just be a bug in when the auto-update is happening. Only the dev's will know! |

| Nope. I don't get the message "Autoupdate complete" in the log. But when it had been allowed to connect to where it wanted to, the attempts to connect stopped. Now it doesn't ask for permisson. Perhaps it is programmed to check for the updates at a certain period of time. Nevermind the autoupdates. I can block it with my PF. And be informed of the updates at the forum. I like the prog. |

| HI Bomenik Let me first welcome you to the forum and now to the connecting to internet bit. It is indeed checking to see if a new version is available only. It is nothing spy wise and is perfectly safe. |
