| Hello all! I bought this drive 4mths ago under the impression that it burned DvD's at 8X. When I actually checked out the write speed using Nero Info it only listed 4X as my only option. Have I been had? Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| Hi Eldon P. and welcome to the forum To check out the real speed you need to have media inserted into the drive when using nero info. Also some makes of media needed firmware updates t achieve 8x on the 2510a. Could you please list the media tyou are trying to record which is showing 4x and tell us what firmware you are using with your 2510a. |

The firmware in my burner is 2.16 Thanks for the response, and whatever assistance the forum is able to offer. |

Ridata 8x is ritek based and needs afirmware upgrade for 8x ( sad but true ). To obtain the best ritek support at its rated sppeed please visit this site http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/index.html where all known 2510A firmwares are listed. Now there are also oem versions of the nec 2510a there too like the tdk and HP rebrands but the best firmware i knew for my 2510a was herries one which had special speed hacks applied was this one from Herie: NEC 2510A 1.07 beta6 (from NEC 2510A 2.15) with Dual Layer support (Herrie) Although i notice a more recent one has been added from the TDK oem version of the 2500: NEC 2500A (From TDK DVDRW882N) 2.36 RPC1 and Rip Speed Firmware (Updated 06-11-2004) These should both resolve your issues. As to which is best i havent tried the tdk version but the 3500 versions of the TDK are normally very good - but Herries will have special speed hacks applied that have been very well tested.
